BONUS MATERIAL: Albert & Laurin's Story.
"Trust is the most important thing between husband and wife. If you cannot trust your husband with your heart, your life, or your love, nothing else matters … only give the sword to your husband if you can trust him with all these things."
As a child, Josephine MacAdams had dutifully memorized her mother’s —words even if she didn’t quite understand what they meant. For years, Josephine kept the secrets handed down through generations of DeReyne women. Now that her betrothed of more than four years has finally come for her, she must decide if he is not only worthy of her heart, but also of the ancient sword. Will Graeme MacAulay prove worthy or will Josephine have to keep the sword hidden for another generation?
But that is not her only worry. She loves her sister-of the-heart, Laurin, who cannot escape the horrors of her past. Illegitimate, abandoned by her mother, and sorely abused by her laird, Laurin’s only hope of ever being free lies in the hands of a man she has just met – Albert MacAulay. Never one to loosen his purse strings, much to the surprise of all who know him, he pays for her freedom. But what will he expect in return?

Suzan has a big winner in this book
By Cathy Phillips
When Josephine MacAdams was 9 years old, her sweet and gentle mother died from the wasting disease. She was left at the mercy of her cruel brother, Helmert, and her disinterested father, Delmer. Before she died, her mother left her with the Gladius: a sword that was passed down from mother to daughter. It was said to be cursed, and only given to a husband if he proved trust worthy, kind, and loved her. She had met Graeme MacAulay three times as she was growing up, hiding from her cruel brother, Helmert. When Delmer was going to betroth Josephine to an unacceptable man, Graeme's father talked him into a betrothal between Graeme and Josephine (or Joie, as she was known to those who loved her). Graeme was furious when he learned he would have no choice in a bride when he received the letter from his father. He waited until almost the last moment (before the 6th of June, when Joie would turn 19 years old, and the betrothal would be broken). Joie and her friend (sister of the heart), Laurin, were waiting for the MacAdams men to come save them from Helmert and his horrible and cruel friends. This story is about Joie and Graeme and Graeme's brother, Albert, and Laurin. There are lots of twists and turns in this story.
Suzan has outdone herself with this book. That is a difficult thing to say since she is an excellent writer, and has never written a bad story. Please get this book. You definitely won't be sorry. Enjoy!

At Last!
By MSPS
At last!!!! Isle of the Blessed by Suzan Tisdale is a sweet tale of two young women who have both been severely violated, in different ways, but the violations have the same effect, the loss of one's sense of security, self worth, or ego integrity, and their loss of trust in those who have authority over them. Suzan was able to portray the abuse and the effects in a fairly simple way, yet she was complete, and retained my interest.
This story begins, with one lonely little girl (Josephine or Joie) typically running and hiding from her brother, and a young man named Graeme who while visiting with his father, watches Joie as she hides from her brother's retribution for some sort of offense. Joie's antics captivate the reader right from the start! Over the years Graeme and his father return to visit and each time it is to find a similar situation. But Graeme is a young man who is full of dreams and aspirations of his own, so while he notices the brother/sister conflict, he doesn't ignore it so much, as attribute it to typical sibling behavior, nothing pernicious or alarming, or enough to cause him concern.
Soon, Joie's mother becomes ill but before she dies, she secretly bequeathed Joie with a sword which has an ancient, mysterious history. She is adamant with Joie, making sure that Joie follows her instructions to the letter as to the disposition of the sword. And in the meantime, Graeme is off to investigate the world, never thinking twice about Joie.
Graeme is a young man, the baby of the family, who like all young, handsome men desires only to taste the pleasures, and treats of life. He believes himself very intelligent, handsome, talented, and has a well developed sense of entitlement. Each of these character traits designs a construct of how Graeme sees himself, his role in life and the type of woman who will complement his importance, a woman worthy of him. Graeme knows he will eventually marry but is not yet ready to surrender himself to adulthood and it's overwhelming responsibilities. So, one can imagine Graeme's shock when he is informed that he is now betrothed, and is ordered to marry by a specific date. To add insult to injury, the bride is none other than little Josephine who does not remotely fit Graeme's concept of a worthy bride. In fact she is the very opposite of what is acceptable to him, and so the war is begins! Graeme is going to do everything within his power to avoid this betrothal and nearly succeeds.
During the years of Graem's procrastination, Joie had sent Graeme frequent letters to further acquaint themselves but he never bothers to open and read them. Despite Graeme's protests, and malingering, the young couple is eventually reunited.
The second bride of the story is a lovely young woman whom Joie calls her "heart sister" and she has her own love story neatly interwoven throughout the threads of Joie's. Their lives, abuses, healing and loves are adeptly twined together so as to complement the story, without bogging it down. And the best, rest of the story shall be yours to discover readers. I always like just enough information to titillate myself as the story unfolds and so I shall leave you here, titillated and interested, on the verge of discovery as to what could possibly make this book so special.
My primary reason for writing this review is that many major authors are now writing what seems to be hurried attempts to satisfy the publisher, much like revamping an old story, throwing in a few sex scenes, or some way to adjust it and get it to the public quickly. But Tisdale continues to present readers an excellent story/s that reflects the effects of the loss of a parent, the abandonment of another, physical, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse. She portrays the growth and development of a young man who has an inflated self-esteem yet who eventually reconciles that part of himself to adulthood and it's subsequent responsibilities. And, she does this in a limited number of pages, which is amazing when one is trying to portray emotional trauma, and healing. Suzan presented readers with clean, fresh likable characters, a realistic setting, and a believable, story line. The story had movement and did not bog down, and it captured my interest from the beginning, thru each page to the end. Wow! This is exactly what I look for in a book! Tisdale restores my faith in authors, and affirms my belief that they can still tell good fresh stories. It appeared that the story flowed effortlessly from her fingers to the page.
This work was well edited, spelling was correct, words were used correctly in appropriate places. My only valid complaint of Tisdale is the length of time between her books. Suzan Tisdale-Salute!

Isle of the Blessed is another hit for Suzan Tisdale. It is a quick read but just as good as the longer books. It has lots of emotion and action, just my kind of book. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone that they read it, you will be glad you did.
