Great for anyone!

I rated this at five stars for being engaging and also being an easy read. It gives good examples to follow and help you learn the basic fundamentals of critical thinking. I have a short attention span so being able to sit down and read this book in one sitting speaks volumes.

What to say for 20 words???

Was taking a class that stressed critical thinking. This seems to be a buzz word for professors to use when asking you to answer essays. However, they don't really get into what it means to think critically. When you question them they claim you shoudl know. This book helps guide and give a good understanding of what it really means to think critically.

I got a number of books like this from the same authors and they do repeat, but the price was right.

I had to buy this for a class, it was painful to read. Words are overused, all concepts are over simplified, a child in middle school could read this easily.
If this book is required for a class, amazon offers a great price.
If you are an adult who wants to learn on your own this probably isn't the book for you.

Overview of 3D technology in 2010 - status and trends

"3D Video Technologies: An Overview of Research Trends" is very well named. Written in 2010 and released early in 2011, this book summarizes the current status of 3D technology, including stereoscopic video, holograms, volumetric 3D video, no-glasses stereoscopic video and no-glasses multiview video. This is a much wider scope than just the 3DTV you see in movie theaters today, however most of those other technologies are not available to the average consumer. The book identfies the key research organizations and examines all components of the deployment chain: 3D cameras, 2D to 3D conversion, how to represent 3D in a file, encoding, trasnmission, transmission errors, and displays. Each of these topics is covered lightly -- this isn't the book to go to for details -- but there are also a lot of references that could be pursued. The author also summarizes research currently underway and likley future research trends. I found this book easy to understand and a relatively quick read, both of which are positive attributes when trying to understand a very large and complex body of research.

The author's bias is that 3D is wonderful and will take over our video watching media in the near future, and that the internet will replace over-the-air broadcast, satelite, cable and the like. The book barely touches on physiological problems resulting from watching 3DTV, and does not opine on whether or not consumers want 3D. I am more of a sceptic myself, and I would have appreciated a bit more explorations into the negative aspects of 3DTV.

This book provides an excellent introduction to 3D Video. It gave me a large picture, including ambiguities surrounding the current status that are not otherwise obvious. If you enjoy this book, you might also appreciate, 3D Television (3DTV) Technology, Systems, and Deployment: Rolling Out the Infrastructure for Next-Generation Entertainment, which takes a more detailed and technical approach but is more difficult to read.

About the Author

Prof. Julian Weber is currently a Strategy Manager in BMW Group’s Product Strategy department. He began working for the BMW Group in 1997 after graduating in Mechanical Engineering with a major in Design and Development at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and receiving a doctorate at the Karlsruhe University, Germany. As a member of the BMW team, Prof. Weber has worked in Process Consulting, Experimental Vehicle Build, as Manager of Purchasing Strategy and Innovation Management North America located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and in different management positions in the development division for Electrics/Electronics and Driver Environment. About the Author

Nancy Garden is the author of young adult novels including The Year They Burned the Books and Endgame. She is also the author of the YA nonfiction book Hear Us Out!, as well as novels for children and the picture book Molly's Family. Garden was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and has lived most of her life in New England and New York. She spent her early adult years working in theater, doing office work, teaching, and editing. During that time, she wrote in the evenings, on weekends, and on vacations, as well as at odd moments while working. Now she writes as close to full-time as possible. When she isn't writing, visiting schools, or making speeches, she enjoys reading, gardening, hiking, the outdoors, and anything to do with dogs. She has received the Margaret A. Edwards Award, the Lambda Book Award and the Robert Downs Intellectual Freedom Award. She and her partner of over twenty years divide their time between small towns in Massachusetts and Maine.

Your identity is valid & nothing to be ashamed of

Okay so this isn't a bad book but let me kind of give my story in relation to this book.
I read this book in the seventh grade(2005). I bought it this year because I have this distant memory of reading a gay book in middle school & thought it would be funny to remind myself of the story. I remembered most of the story except how it ends. When I finished it I realized how much I must have blocked it out. I think that time in my life is when I was most self aware. I honestly think the conflict in the book made me suppress my feelings and made me feel bad for having them. Probably why I was in the closet for so long. So my advice is.... If you are young and interested in the book, you should read it. Its really cute. & its a great portrayal of young love. Just remember this book came out many years ago. You are loved. Your identity is valid and nothing to be ashamed of.

Annie On My Mind

In an age where less than 1% of young adult books have gay, lesbian, transgender, or bisexual characters, it is important to promote the ones that are out there.

In a time when it was considered extremely taboo, teenaged Liza finds herself falling in love with another girl, her vivacious new friend Annie. Told from Liza’s point of view, Annie On My Mind illustrates the development of their relationship, the confusion that Liza feels over her newly discovered sexuality, and the turmoil that comes as a result of being caught in the act of making love at a teacher’s house. Though this book was written over 20 years ago, I think that young adults would still find it relatable, and the material didn’t feel overly dated when I was reading it. Above all, the emotions ring true and give the book real authenticity.

It is an unfortunate truth that the vast majority of books with romantic plots deal with a guy and a girl, and it’s really a shame that aren’t more that embrace other kinds of people too. Homosexuality is a very touchy and controversial subject for a lot of people, for whatever reason, and young people may not always feel comfortable asking others about different sexualities and lifestyles. That is one of the many reasons that it is important to have books that show other kinds of people and other ways to love. We’re not all cookie cutter people, so why should the characters in books be? Annie On My Mind tells a very lovely and realistic story with good characters and a satisfying ending.

Maybe the story of Liza and Annie will help others who may find themselves confused or struggling and assure them that they, too, are normal and loved and things can work out positively no matter what your sexual orientation might be. Or, you know, maybe the story will just be an entertaining read for anyone. As a reader, I appreciate a well-told story with good characters, period. In Annie On My Mind, the two girls are fully realized characters who never fall into stereotypes. Their love is so charming and sweet that it was a delight to read.

Classic, Revolutionary, & Sweet

Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden has always been one of my favorite books. I'm not sure whether that has to do with the fact that it's the first LGBTQ book I ever read (and actually liked) or if it's because of Garden's captivating details & dynamics. Either way, this novel will make you feel all warm inside. Liza & Annie's story is real, intriguing, & beautiful. It will remind you of your first love, and it will bring back so many memories that you haven't thought of in a long time (especially if you're like me and are only 17).
The only issue that I ever had with this book is that there was never a sequel written about Liza & Annie, and I've always wondered what happened with those two. Though I guess the ending does reveal a little, but my mind is a curious one & will never be satisfied.
So no, you will not be dissapointed if you read this novel. Rather, the opposite.

Powerful little book

Forgiveness is a necessary part of a believer's life yet it can be very difficult. "Help! I Can't Forgive that Person" will make getting mentally free easier. I read this powerful little book in under an hour, which is great because it's a serious subject that might be too daunting in a much longer book.
In the interests of disclosure, I am personal friends with the author. This also means I can tell you first hand that Wesley Leake lives his message.
If you have the courage to be honest with yourself, you will find freedom in these pages.

Good read for those struggling to forgive yourself or others. I am sending this book to my mother hopefully she can find forgiveness before the day she passes with her struggle with cancer.
