Very Disappointed

I would say the work of the MDM Alliance Group (MAG) as a whole is a 5 star rating. This book however is not. I have been following the work of the MAG for a while now. I have downloaded and read all their papers they make available online, and quite frankly, they are more thorough.

There are several places in the book where the author says we don't have room in the book for this, so go download our whitepaper. The entire reason for writing a book is to expand on a topic, not provide an abstract of previous work. Almost every chapter left me with the feeling that is was incomplete.

I paid the full $80 price tag for this. I would recommend it if the price tag come down to $30, if you want an overview of how MAG views the world of MDM, or if you are new to MDM and want an overview. Don't buy it for the semantic modeling unless you just want an overview. Go download the whitepapers from the MAGs site.

Saundersville was a tiny village founded by three brothers, William Jesse, and Jacob Sanders, in or about 1835. The brothers moved their families from Virginia, taking a grueling journey across the Alleghany Mountains using horse drawn wagons. Many descendants of the Sanders brothers lived and farmed there in Saundersville until the 1970s, when the land was bought out and stripped of all of its familiar existence. This is the story of what happened in between those two events - the creation and destruction of Saundersville, and who lived there and what they did there. This book is based on documented historical facts about the history of Saundersville and the people who lived there. The sources of information presented here is wide and varied. Some of it is by word of mouth, from parents, grandparents, cousins, and friends. Some came from courthouse land records, from the various censuses, from pictures, from historical maps, from books and web sites, and from personal journals and from written notes handed down from my grandfathers. Where gaps in the records exist, I drew from other authors who wrote historical, factual accounts about people or relatives in similar situations in the near vicinity. In this way, this story of Saundersville can be told in a complete and historically accurate manner. So who was the Sanders of Saundersville, and why wasn't he the Saunders of Saundersville?

My ancestors migrated from Virginia to Ohio and Harland Brent Sanders has included many pages with excellent documented source citations about my father's and mother's families farming the rich lands of Gallia and Lawrence Counties. This book explains the beginning and the prosperous years of Saundersville, Ohio; settled by three Sanders brothers and their families in the early 1800's. I want to thank the author for including many early photos and good maps to help today's genealogists researching families in southern Ohio. Saundersville has disappeared vanished and we can only find the cemeteries and monuments of the early settlers.

Good history about early Ohio. The postmaster was my great great grandfather. My only complaint is it has an unbalanced amount of information on the different branches of the family. But I understand the author is working on a volume two and looking to expand the info on ths other branches as well as the earlier history of the family.

Love this partial history of my ancestors back to 1700's. It broght back so many memories of people still alive into the 1950's. Many pictures of places I remember that are gone now. It turns out the author is my second cousin. I remember his grandfather and great-grandfather.

This was a nice art book to read and I rarely read art books, I just buy them for inspirational pictures of art. Debora Stewart's words were helpful. I have been painting abstractly for years but it has always felt more stressful than I think it should. Her ideas and suggestions have been helpful in making my painting practice less stressful and more intuitive and honest. I bought the kindle version. My complaint with that version is that while I can change the size of the print I can not change the size of the artwork and so all of Debora Stewart's lovely work is shown in a small thumbnail size on my tablet. She does beautiful work and I would have liked to seen the examples larger and in more detail. My one suggestion to Ms. Stewart is that she expands her own color palette, she does love her oranges and purples and they are in every one of her examples. Her work is very distinctive due to her palette so I recognize it anywhere. If you want to see larger examples of her work you will have to go to her website and Pinterest. I do think this book would be useful for anyone starting out with abstract work or for artists who want to gain more enjoyment and freedom with their abstract work. This book does not do example projects in a step by step fashion so that you end up creating a piece just like the artist's which I think is not the point of abstract art, instead you learn steps toward making your own artwork. Problems reading comfortably due to poor printing choices!

If your eyes are aging or you don't have a strong light source, you will likely be unable to read this book, at least comfortably. Even if you do, I can't imagine it will be much fun, given I could barely see the fine light gray print, and didn't have a lighted magnifier handy. The text was poorly done. Too bad, since I like the artist's work.

"The book maximises on presentation by using clear headings and sub headings, good quality colour plates, diagrams and tables. In common with many other Elsevier books, it’s attractively presented. The authors are keen for the reader to learn about the advances in the field and have included details of these breakthroughs. The pathology textbook I bought as a student was just under half the price of this one and was left mostly on the shelf being largely unreadable with monochrome only illustrations and no extra features. That makes this book good value for money I would say!

The book to purchase to learn Pathology

This is the book to purchase while studying pathology during medical school. It explains pathological concepts,and related topics such as embryology and biochemistry) in a detailed manner. At the same time this book manages to be concise enough so that you can read while completing other course work during medical school. Having on-line access to this book on Student Consult is convenient so that you do not have to carry the book around with you all the time. I recommend this book over the larger version of this book for the average medical student.

I like this book a lot! It has the main information about basic pathology as it title says... I prefer to read it in english cause the traduction on spanish aren't so good but I really like it, it has an excelent lever for medical students and it's very interactive with images and figures that make it so easy to read...

The information it well organized so as the pictures and the free access online system give me so much advantages cause I can read it anywhere I am from my ipod

Good for learning pathology, bad for Step 1 prep

This book has a lot of images and a lot of details, which is great if you want to learn pathology in-depth. Yes, there is a more detailed companion book by the same authors, but this volume--and it is a volume--is much too detailed for your Step 1 preparations. Goljan is a much better fit.

We are sinking fast passengers being put into boats


Alfred Fernand Omont, a first class passenger, offered this statement to the British Commission of Enquiry:

"While I was still on the boat deck, a [life] boat was let down. The 1st officer saw me and asked me if I wanted to get in. Some of the passengers shouted to me not to get in as they had such confidence in the ship. I saw that the sea was very calm, and on calm reason I thought it better to jump into the boat and see what would happen. I jumped two or three yards, and landed in the boat anyhow. We were twenty nine in the boat. The boat could not have held more than thirty in any case. I personally consider and state that the idea of putting sixty people in a boat or on a raft is ridiculous. I have a photograph in my possession which shows how ridiculous it is to attempt to put 50 or sixty persons in one of these boats or rafts. I consider it a monstrosity to state that one could put 60 persons in a boat, in safety. . . .

Excellent primary source historical information.

If what you like are action, adventure, and dramatic illistrations, this is not for you. If you want a contemporary view, to hold history in your hand and be brought back to 1912, this is most definately for you. Yet there is a certain emotion in examening Titanic's registration, her survey report, the port by port clearance papers of newly embarked passengers, and the other narratives and reports. The Harland and Wolff plans are the best I have yet found, while the 74 page report of the British Court of Investigation is fascinating, if somewhat dry, reading, from both a technical and human perspective. This is a must, not only for serious Titanic people, but for anyone interested in the history of the era.

A Historical Collection of Great Documents

I received this item as a gift many years ago, and I have preserved it since. It is truly a collectors item for its wealth of information pertaining to the Titanic disaster. There are 18 documents (don't let the number fool you into thinking that is minimal) of full reproductions of all the pertinent information concerning the tragedy.

What you can hope to get in this box set:

A full introductory bulletin spanning 15 pages which beautifully illustrates the box contents. In addition to a brief summary of the maiden voyage, there is information on "further reading", a little blurb on each item in the box set, and an appendix of "Particulars of Ships Built By Harland and Wolff-Entries for the Olympic and Titanic."
